Volunteers Supporting Community Groups

To all Social Media volunteers  - aiming to do good things for your communities

iConnect Digital is a community-focused initiative assisting individuals and community groups in connecting with and via technology.

Congratulations to all the volunteers who have stepped up to help community groups with social media posting!

Your contributions are truly invaluable and make a significant impact on the success of community groups.

Your expertise and passion for social media bring new life to these community groups, helping them reach a wider audience and connect with more people.

Community groups are fortunate to have you on board as part of an essential community-focused function and, without a doubt, are grateful for your contributions when representing community group interests.

Community Groups and the benefits of Social Media

Social media has become an increasingly important tool for open and transparent communication.

To support and suggest that your group makes the most of this opportunity, we've put together these friendly guidelines to help you get the most out of your community or group’s social media presence while representing your community group.

Be Transparent: When using social media to represent your community group, clearly state your affiliation as a volunteer and / or your role. This helps build trust and credibility with followers & likers of a community group page where applicable. Providing critical group information, such as opening times, days, and meeting dates can also benefit community members.

Be Positive: Social media is a powerful tool for spreading positivity and spreading the word about the great work that your community group is doing. When sharing on behalf of your community group, keep your tone friendly and upbeat. It is essential to reflect upon community group messaging and remember that social media presence is to represent the community or connect members with helpful information.

Be Safe (Protect Confidential Information): As a volunteer, you may have access to sensitive information about your community group. Aim to keep this information confidential and not share it on social media without community group members' approval and consent.

Be Mindful (Please respect the Rules): Your community group can establish values and standards that your group will expect all of our volunteers to uphold. When using social media, follow the same rules you would follow in any other aspect of your volunteer work.

Remember, when posting social media messaging on a community group’s Social Media page, the content represents the community group as a whole.

Be Professional: While social media is a great way to connect with others, it's important to remember that your actions can reflect on your community group. Make sure to keep your posts professional and avoid posting anything that may not represent your group.

Above all, have fun!

Social media is a great way to connect with others and share your passion for your community group’s work.

Remember that an array of ecosystem system participants (such as Local Govt, State Govt, Federal Govt, NGOs, etc.) can add value, support, and create opportunities for your community group. Connecting and communicating effectively with your community group via social media, emails, and contact numbers can ensure you are informed and aware of resources that can benefit your group objectives.

Effective communication, connection, and information exchange can empower good things for your community.
